Sarah Longfield: the double edge sword of the Internet

Sarah Longfield
inb4 everyone is all "Music isn't about the money at least he gets to tour he needs to stop bitching ok pls guize srsly". I'm not trying to go there. These sort of articles have been popping up all over my newsfeed with big bands breaking up everyday over the fact that there is no way to make music work anymore, or to even bother trying. And I'm not going to argue over weather money should be a motivating factor or not, but you can't deny that it's a bit depressing. It feels hopeless as a musician and as a listener. It's sad that we live in a society that has lost it's lust for the creative arts and traded it for a sense of entitlement and disdain towards the bands we "love", leaving said bands under the constant scrutiny and whim of the oh-so-fickle digital bandwagon-ers. I know there was a time when those who disliked something didn't have the ability to ruin things with it (or even the desire to), but I don't think that's the case anymore. While the internet has provided a bunch of cool outlets (I can't complain) it's also played a fair part in ruining a lot of good things for a lot of hard working, talented people :c and so I am sad. I'm sad for the musicians that have had to make these decisions and I'm sad for the "fans" who have also abandoned their love for music. Sad feels all around :c
