Isabel Torres: Original - Shure Play for LA 3rd Place

Isabel Torres: I am a 19-year-old session guitarist based in London.

I have had experience playing in several musical projects and played in venues such as The 100 Club (Oxford Street), Borderline (Soho), Casa da Musica (Portugal) and Auditório Exponor (Portugal), amongst others. I have also played at the Staxtonbury Music Festival for an audience of over 6000 people.

As a session player, I have worked in multiple projects for independent artists covering musical styles such as Rock, Pop, Funk, Blues, Jazz…

I started playing guitar at the age of 13, taking private lessons with guitarist and composer Sandro Norton (Mmus). Furthermore, I studied at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and have taken courses and attended masterclasses with Gary Burton (Berklee College of Music) and Barry Harris (Jazz Workshop in Rome). I am currently doing a degree in Popular Music Performance at Tech Music School, London.

In the past couple of years, I have had appearances in major Portuguese television channels such as RTP1 (Praça da Alegria), SIC (Portugal tem Talento), TVI (Jornal Nacional - Prime Time of TVI Channel) and Porto Canal (Porto Alive).

In 2012, I got the chance of meeting personally Steve Vai, one of my major musical influences.

In 2014 I won 3rd place on the Shure Play for LA Guitar Competition for best amateur European guitarist.

I am currently working as a freelance guitarist in London.

3rd Prize: Isabel Tores
Great finesse and creative use of harmonics. A real smooth Santana style vibe to this entry.
