Biography
NEON ONI is a Tokyo-based "ura-kawaii" (dark/alternative kawaii) metal band with a fascinating origin story. Originally launched as a virtual, AI-assisted digital project utilizing tools like Suno to generate heavy metal instrumentation and pop melodies, the project unexpectedly blew up online, pulling in millions of streams. In response to overwhelming fan demand for a physical presence, the creator transitioned the concept into a real-world performing act, hiring live human artists to bring the digital characters to life on stage and competing in events like Wacken Metal Battle Japan.
