Black Sabbitch: Biography, Members & Repertoire
Biography
Black Sabbitch is a critically acclaimed, all-female Black Sabbath interpretation band based in Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2012 by drummer Angie Scarpa, the group quickly transcended the traditional "cover band" mold, earning widespread praise for capturing the authentic heavy swing, raw analog energy, and dark atmosphere of early 1970s Black Sabbath. Their exceptional musicianship and compelling live shows have earned them high-profile endorsements and festival invites from rock royalty, including being hand-picked by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne for Ozzfiesta, Dave Grohl for Cal Jam, and Paul Stanley for the KISS Kruise, alongside major festival appearances at Wacken Open Air and Psycho Las Vegas.
Band Members
- Alice Austin (Vocals): Delivers powerful, dynamic lead vocals that capture the spirit and key of the original material without relying on mere mimicry.
- Emily Burton (Guitar): Recreates Tony Iommi’s iconic, heavy riffing style and precise vintage guitar tones with reverence and technical accuracy.
- Melanie Makaiwi (Bass): Anchors the low end with Geezer Butler's signature melodic basslines and heavy driving grooves.
- Angie Scarpa (Drums): Founder whose hard-hitting, swinging percussion drives the band's authentic early-Sabbath rhythm section.
Repertoire & Performance Focus
Rather than focusing on modern commercial radio hits alone, Black Sabbitch specializes in faithfully performing classic tracks and deep cuts from Black Sabbath's golden era (primarily albums like Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Volume 4, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath), focusing on the heavy blues-infused doom and improvisational energy that defined the original lineup's peak years.
