Note: Band-Maid is a world-renowned Japanese hard rock band formed in Tokyo in 2013. Known for their contrasting visual aesthetic—dressing in traditional maid outfits inspired by Akihabara maid cafes while delivering ferocious, technically complex hard rock and heavy metal—they have earned global acclaim for their elite musicianship and high-energy live performances.

Extensive Biography

Band-Maid was conceived in July 2013 by rhythm guitarist and vocalist Miku Kobato, who wanted to blend the concept of Japanese maid culture with serious, hard-hitting rock music. Recruiting lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, drummer Akane Hirose, and bassist Misa, they soon added lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi to complete the definitive lineup. Initially performing independently around Tokyo, the band quickly captured international attention following the viral release of their 2015 music video for "Thrill," which showcased a striking juxtaposition of maid uniforms and blindingly fast, heavy musicianship.

As the band evolved, they leaned heavily into progressive hard rock, heavy metal, and intricate songwriting, driven by Kanami Tōno's complex neoclassical guitar solos and the relentless rhythm section of Misa and Akane. They signed with major Japanese labels before expanding globally, partnering with JPU Records and Live Nation for international tours, and performing at massive major rock festivals across the US, Europe, and Asia. In 2020, they made their Hollywood cinematic debut contributing to the Netflix film Kate, and continued pushing boundaries through high-profile collaborations with international rock legends such as Mike Einziger of Incubus and Santana producer Tony Visconti.
