Poppy (born Moriah Rose Pereira on June 8, 1995) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and multi-disciplinary artist. She initially gained viral fame in 2014–2017 through a series of surreal, deadpan, and uncanny performance-art YouTube videos that satirized internet culture, consumerism, and fame. Transitioning her conceptual aesthetic into music, she released her bubblegum electropop debut album Poppy.Computer (2017) via Mad Decent.
Over time, Poppy dramatically subverted her pop origins by integrating aggressive heavy metal, industrial rock, and nu-metal into her sound—a pivot fully realized on her critically acclaimed, GRAMMY-nominated third studio album, I Disagree (2020). Breaking barriers, she became the first solo female artist ever nominated in the Best Metal Performance category at the Grammy Awards (for her single "BLOODMONEY").
