Extensive Biography
Suichu Spica (水中スピカ) is an innovative Japanese math-rock and post-rock band formed in Kyoto in 2018 and currently based in Tokyo. They have carved out a distinctive niche in the international underground music scene by fusing complex, interlocking math-rock rhythms, emo textures, and shoegaze atmospheres with catchy J-pop vocal hooks. At the core of their sound is lead guitarist and vocalist Chiaki, who is globally celebrated for her sophisticated two-hand guitar tapping technique executed simultaneously while delivering pristine lead vocals. Her unique playing style and technical mastery have earned her official endorsement status with major international and domestic gear brands including Ibanez, Walrus Audio, EarthQuaker Devices, Cream Guitars, and Altero Custom Guitars. After building underground momentum through early self-released works, Suichu Spica released their debut studio album mEq in 2021 and sophomore album Osm in 2022 via Friend of Mine Records, with the latter later receiving a specialized LP release through influential indie tastemaker label **stiffslack**. Known for high-profile domestic festival appearances—such as Fuji Rock Festival’s "Rookie a Go-Go"—and supporting international math-rock royalty like LITE and Covet, the band embarked on massive global touring across Asia, the United States (including SXSW), and Australia.
