Biography

Kittie is a pioneering Canadian heavy metal band formed in London, Ontario in 1996 by sisters Morgan and Mercedes Lander alongside original guitarist Fallon Bowman and bassist Tanya Candler. Emerging during the late-90s nu-metal and alternative metal boom, the all-female quartet shattered glass ceilings with their aggressive blend of crushing down-tuned riffs, death metal growls, and melodic hooks. Led by Tara McLeod’s searing lead guitar work and the Lander sisters' relentless creative force, Kittie became an enduring fixture in modern extreme music.

Heavy metal was a barren wasteland for women in the mid-1990s until four teenagers from small-town Canada decided to change everything. This is the authentic story of Kittie, a band that rose from high school jams to sharing the stage with legends like Slipknot and Iron Maiden. After the explosive success of their debut album, the group faced the overwhelming pressure of global fame, intense scrutiny from a male-dominated industry, and internal fractures that led to frequent lineup changes.

The heart of this journey lies with sisters Morgan and Mercedes Lander, who navigated the heights of Ozzfest and the lows of a changing music industry. The narrative takes a somber turn as they reflect on the sudden loss of their father and manager, the man who championed their "fuck you" attitude from the beginning. Through addiction, health crises, and legal battles, the music remained the only constant. This film honors the legacy of a band that paved the way for a new generation of heavy music, proving that staying true to your sound is the only way to survive.
