Beni Ninagawa (蜷川べに) is a celebrated Japanese virtuoso Tsugaru-shamisen player, composer, and model born in Kyoto, Japan. Beginning her formal studies in traditional folk music and the Tsugaru-jamisen at the age of four, she went on to win numerous prestigious awards, including the Chief Cabinet Secretary's Award and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award. Best known internationally as a founding member and lead shamisen player of the multi-platinum-selling crossover rock juggernaut Wagakki Band, she bridges traditional Japanese folk performance with modern heavy metal and J-rock. She is also recognized for pioneering advanced modern adaptations, including playing the world's only custom urushi-lacquered electric shamisen ("Lycoris"), and for her viral online interpretations of anime and Vocaloid compositions.
