Biography & Band History

Formed in Tokyo in June 2018 by prodigy guitarist and primary composer Sakura, HAGANE is an all-female Japanese melodic speed and power metal quintet. Translating to "steel" in Japanese, the band operates under the aesthetic and conceptual banner of the "Sword with a Blue Flame" (青く燃ゆる極剣), combining European neoclassical metal grandeur, blistering double-bass tempos, and bright, emotive Japanese melodies.

HAGANE exploded onto the international radar with their 2020 debut mini-album Episode 0 and the viral power-metal anthem "WintrySky," quickly distinguished by Sakura's razor-sharp shredding and intricate guitar arrangements. In May 2023, the band faced a pivotal crossroads when three founding members (vocalist Uyu, guitarist Mayto, and drummer Kanako) simultaneously departed. Rather than disbanding, Sakura and long-time bassist Sayaka took a hiatus to audition new talent. In May 2024, HAGANE made a triumphant return, unveiling a revitalized, powerhouse lineup featuring vocalist JOTSU, guitarist SORIA, and drum prodigy JUNNA, solidifying their resurgence with the hit EP Life Goes On!.
