VAMPIRE BATS

Japanese Horror-Themed Garage Punk & High-Octane Rock 'n' Roll

Biography

VAMPIRE BATS is an all-female Japanese rock and garage-punk outfit founded and fronted by Kyoto-born guitarist and lead vocalist "YOU". Prior to launching the band, YOU forged a formidable reputation across the Japanese underground rock circuit through her work in acts such as ASTRO BABYS, Cherry Bomb Candies, and Pink Moon Babies.

Infusing raw 1970s punk, psychobilly drive, and vintage horror-camp aesthetics, VAMPIRE BATS earned early international stripes sharing stages with legendary psychobilly trailblazers The Meteors, touring Europe, and building strong ties with indie imprint Gollipop Record. In July 2026, the group released their long-awaited debut full-length album, Vampire's Delight, distributed nationwide via Tokuma Japan Communications.

Guitar Style & Musical Characteristics

Led by YOU's aggressive fretboard delivery, the sound of VAMPIRE BATS is defined by its punchy, no-nonsense roots:

Surf-Inflected Garage Riffs: Heavy use of spring-reverb-drenched, tremolo-picked single-note melodies and vintage Dick Dale-style surf hooks slammed into full punk tempo.
Psychobilly & Horror Stomp Cadences: Upbeat, driving rhythms rooted in classic 1950s rockabilly swing, supercharged with distortion and hard-driving power chords.
Campy Horror B-Movie Aesthetics: Lyrical motifs, call-and-response gang vocals, and theatrical vampiric attitude delivered with razor-sharp punk sincerity.
Raw, Unpolished Tone: Cranking midrange-heavy tube overdrive rather than modern high-gain metal crunch, retaining string definition, percussive pick attack, and dynamic room bounce.
