DEZOLVE (ディゾルブ)
Next-Generation Japanese Jazz-Fusion Quartet, Polyrhythmic Precision & Melodic Virtuosity
Biography & Formation Overview
Formed in Tokyo, Japan, in 2014, DEZOLVE is a four-piece instrumental jazz-fusion super-unit representing the modern vanguard of Japanese fusion (J-Fusion). Conceived by conservatory-trained virtuosos seeking to evolve the lineage of pioneers like Casiopea, T-SQUARE, and PRISM, the group unites intricate progressive-rock complexity, modern harmonic jazz vocabularies, and soaring, singable J-pop/anime-tier melodic hooks.
After releasing two acclaimed independent records—DEZOLVE (2016) and SPHERE (2017)—the band made their major label debut under King Records with PORTRAY (2018), quickly gaining international attention among instrumental enthusiasts. Despite a rhythm section transition when founding bassist Shingo Ogaya departed, the arrival of virtuosic bassist Takuma Kaneko solidified a tight, high-energy lineup. Celebrating their milestone decade with the landmark 10th Anniversary Concert, DEZOLVE continues to push contemporary fusion forward with sophisticated studio albums and dense live arrangements.
Personnel & Instrumental Mastery
- Shoya Kitagawa (北川翔也) – Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Synthesizer
- Joining as a permanent member in 2015, Kitagawa provides fluid, singing lead lines, intricate jazz-chord voicings, and searing high-gain fusion shred. His playing blends Allan Holdsworth-style wide-interval legato, modern hybrid picking, and pristine acoustic steel-string fingerstyle.
- Jun Tomoda (友田ジュン) – Keyboards, Acoustic Piano & Synthesizers
- A founding member and primary compositional pillar. Tomoda anchors the band's harmonic sophistication with rapid acoustic piano arpeggios, vintage Rhodes and Hammond textures, and layered analog synthesizer leads reminiscent of classic 1980s fusion.
- Maoki Yamamoto (山本真央樹) – Drums, Percussion & Synthesizer Programming
- The dynamic rhythmic powerhouse and co-founder (and son of legendary BowWow guitarist Kyoji Yamamoto). Renowned for his blinding chops, polyrhythmic independence, metric modulations, and thunderous double-kick control, Yamamoto is also one of the group's most prolific principal composers.
- Takuma Kaneko (兼子拓真) – Electric Bass (6-String & 5-String)
- Succeeding founding bassist Shingo Ogaya, Kaneko commands extended-range electric basses. His style features lightning-fast percussive slap-and-pop techniques, machine-gun fingerstyle 16th-note grooves, and articulate high-register chord-melody solos.
