Joanne Shaw Taylor: not just a pretty guitar!

Joanne Shaw Taylor latest release Almost Always Never is Joanne’s third studio album, White Sugar (2009) and Diamonds in the Dirt (2010). Joanne was born and raised in the Black Country, Joanne was ‘discovered’ by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart as a 16 year old guitar prodigy. Through hard work and near-constant touring, she is now one of the hottest young names in British Blues.

The album features David Garza (keyboards), Billy White (bass, guitar) and J.J. Johnson (drums). Previously, Garza has worked with the likes of Fiona Apple, Juliana Hatfield, and Blues Traveler. White has played with the Heartless Bastards and Craig Finn, and J.J. Johnson has drummed with John Mayer.

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of the new album and have had a chance to sample the new album in detail. To see what this fine blues player has to offer on the latest release.

It should be stated right off the bat that Joanne Shaw Taylor is a super vocalist, imagine a silky soulfulness, Richie Kotzen in cream, a soft and tender Eric Martin, and a sleek and slinky Joe Bonamassa and you'll know the voice is that good. Couple this is great blues guitar and intelligent song writing and you have a great blues rock album on your hands.

Tracks like the aptly titled Jealousy, highlight a more blues edge balancing, hammond organ, and over driven gutsy bluesy guitar.

Foot stomping rocker Tied and Bound kicks out with beefy guitars and wailing hammond organ.

The track Beautifully Broken is my favourite track from this release, reminding me a little of Richie Kotzen's Fooled Again. Again great singing and bluesy playing through out

Overall a highly enjoyable album and one that is sure to make you want to see Joanne Shaw Taylor playing live. Tour date details
