I love shred, but some of my biggest influences on guitar are barely such. Peter Tagtgren, Jon Nodtveidt, James Hetfield (go ahead and laugh it up, but you know no one downstrokes like that!), Mikael Akerfeldt to name a few... Some shredders that I *am* influenced by aren't even the biggest ones either, like Dimebag Darell (totally underrated as a shredder), Michael Amott, Michael Romeo, etc... and that's just guitar players! Let alone other types of music and musicians
